 Interface to Credit Card Processing

AutoClerk's interface to credit card processing eliminates the need for separate credit card processing terminals by attaching a card reader to the keyboard reducing bad debts due to error-prone manual input of credit card data. The interface to Credit Card Processing verifies sufficient credit on file and automatically calculates the amount to be authorized. This interface to Credit Card Processing also includes a predetermined amount to cover incidentals and calls out for additional authorization when it is needed. This reduces time at check out and also eliminates the need for guests to present their credit card again upon departure. The interface enables you to process advance deposits on credit cards, charge for entire stays at check-in and keeps advance deposits and credit card information on folios significantly reducing paperwork. A complete audit trail are generated and stored in a log file for easy access. The interface streamlines the entire credit card process saving you time and money

AutoClerk supports all credit card processing via Shift4.

AutoClerk is Shift4 interface certified. Shift4 is a secure third party payment gateway provider that has been independently certified as 100% PCI DSS compliant. While the installation of such an interface at your hotel will not, by itself, make your hotel PCI DSS compliant, it is an important step towards better cardholder data security. AutoClerk's implementation of the interface supports Shift4's new Tokenization technology. The interface speeds up front desk operations because guest credit card authorizations can be done using the hotel's digital connection to the Internet (e.g. Broadband, DSL, T1), which is many times faster than old phone modem technology.

For more information, including Shift4 pricing, please contact Daniel Montellano, Manager of Business Development-Hospitality at Shift4, 702-597-2480, x3432, dmontellano@shift4.com.

From a data security standpoint, one major advantage in utilizing Shift4 is that card payment transactions processed via the Shift4 interface are automatically saved on disk (on the hotel's server) as truncated data. Truncated data is when X's have replaced a substantial number of digits of the cardholder primary account number. For example, XXXXXXXXXXXX4957 is a truncation format used when printing a guest folio receipt, 5474XXXXXXXX4957 is a truncation format used by Shift4 for hotelier internal reporting purposes, and 547463XXXXXX4957 is a truncation format used by AutoClerk for hotelier internal reporting purposes. A truncated number is of no value to thieves.

Shift4 has many management features for better security including fraud detection triggers and settlement batch triggers that can keep hotel management informed via email alerts 24 hours per day. The Shift4 web portal, Dollars on the net™, shows all of a hotel's credit card activity (authorizations and settlements) greatly facilitating centralized audits or research on property credit card issues from a corporate standpoint. Hotel management can set the portal permissions levels so that only selected hotel employees can use the portal to view full (un-truncated) credit card numbers. The portal can be used to resolve clerical errors. For example: A walk-in guest credit card is successfully authorized, but the clerk neglects to complete the guest check-in within AutoClerk and the guest goes to the room. The error may not be noticed until the next business day, after which the full (un-truncated) credit card number is no longer available in AutoClerk proper, yet it is still available on the Shift4 portal.

Note: Each station which will be processing credit cards must have a separate card swipe. It MUST be a MagTek MiniUSB Magnetic Stripe Card Reader - Part #:  21040110.
